Alexandria’s Principle Gallery Hosts Online Auction for Ukraine

ALEXANDRIA, VA – Support for Ukraine continues in Alexandria. Principles Gallery in the Old Town is organizing an online auction for the National Union of Artists of Ukraine. The gallery is auctioning off a sculpture by Ryan M. Quinn, which has a special connection to Ukraine. He learned to carve in the country while serving as a military diplomat.

On a personal level, I am grateful to the Union des Artistes because they have played such a role in
shaping my development as a sculptor,” Quinn said. “I sincerely hope to support the Union des artistes as they have supported me.”

The bronze sculpture “Zaivy Zaets” (which translates to “A Useless Hare”) measures 11.5 inches long, 10.5 inches wide and 6.5 inches high.

Quinn’s work is influenced by the classical sculptural style of his artistic upbringing under Serhii Brylov. He has been accepted into the 2020 Ukrainian Sculpture Triennial. He has the distinction of being the first American to win a place in the exhibition.

The National Union of Artists of Ukraine was founded in 1938. Based in Kyiv, its goal, according to a press release, is “to coordinate the creative forces of Ukraine, guide the formation of the artistic environment, ensure freedom of creativity and promote professional growth”. and
