An online auction of Marin Mazzie’s collection to benefit the Cancer Support Community

Three-time Tony Award nominee and Theater Hall of Fame inductee Sailor Mazzie (Passion; Ragtime; Kiss me, kate), who lost her battle with ovarian cancer on September 13, 2018, is said to have celebrated her 61st birthday on October 9. To honor his memory, the Applause Shop – a virtual Broadway marketplace that partners with nonprofit arts and social justice organizations to raise funds through auctions and direct sales of collectibles – hosts a special event online auction theater memorabilia of Mazzie and her husband, fellow Broadway star Jason Danieley (Candid), with whom she appears in Next to normal and in concert.

Proceeds from the auction, which opens today and runs until November 1, will benefit the Cancer Support Community (CSC) – the world’s largest nonprofit, professionally-led cancer support network – to provide free support and navigation services to people living with cancer across the country. Mazzie was a strong supporter of CSC and an advocate for those affected. His leadership and advocacy for ovarian cancer awareness was recognized with a Special Tony Award in 2020.

“We are very privileged to work alongside Jason to ensure that Marin’s incredible legacy as an advocate continues to bring attention to the unique needs of patients and caregivers,” said Ted Miller, vice president principal of development and external affairs at CSC. “The response from Jason and Marin’s family and the entire Broadway community continues to inspire us all.”

The auction contains hundreds of items at all prices and includes unique treasures, such as the blouse Marin wore when playing Diana in the Broadway production of Next to normal, the logo-embroidered bathrobe Marin wore when she created the role of Mother in Ragtime, and gifts for the opening night of dozens of productions.

“Like many people, my life has been touched by cancer,” said Laura Heywood, Co-Founder of Applause Shop. “I was honored when Jason Danieley, CSC champion and Broadway star, approached me to auction off items from his and Marin’s personal collection for the benefit of such a worthy organization.

The auction dates have been chosen to coincide with those of CSC Annual celebration 2021, an uplifting and inspiring evening of hope and community, to be held virtually on October 28 at 8 p.m. During the event, CSC will present its annual Marin Mazzie Award for Empowerment, recognizing public figures who, like Mazzie, use their platform to advocate and inspire people living with cancer. This year’s recipient will be NBC Today’s show host Craig Melvin. Previous recipients include Broadway’s Ashley Park Bad girls and Marcia Cross (Desperate housewives; Quantico). The animation will be provided by Sam Gravitte (Bad) and Aisha Jackson (Frozen). Viewing is free, but contributions are welcome. To register or make a donation, go to in line.
