The superb collection of glass includes magnificent examples of Galle, Legras, Muller Frères, Daum and others.

The couple worked there in the late 1950s and 1960s. “

The exceptional glass collection consists of approximately 75 pieces in total and includes cameo glass and Victorian glass. Galle’s tracks are expected to do particularly well. Here are some examples :

Fine furnishings will include an early 19th century English Regency marble-topped console on fluted columnar supports, painted in fake wood with gold leaf motif (estimate: $ 1,500 – $ 2,500); and an 18th-century Chinese Chippendale armchair with an arched crest rail over a scalloped backrest, with scrolled armrests and scalloped side supports above an upholstered seat (estimate: $ 1,000 to $ 2,000).

A fine collection of oil paintings by the American artist Andre (Gittelson) Gisson (1921-2003) will be offered, a couple whose provenance traces them to the Vixseboxse Art Galleries in Cleveland. Two of the auction’s most intriguing works of art is a color woodblock print with embossing on handmade paper by Katharine Hood McCormick (American, 1882–1960), titled Rittenhouse Square, Spring, signed, titled and mat (estimate: $ 1,000 – $ 2,000); and an offset lithograph film poster for Andy Warhol’s 1968 film Flesh, with Joe D’Allessandro (estimate: $ 100-200).

Returning to Akron’s home, other mid-century modern treasures include a Massimo Vignelli glass pendant light for Venini from around 1950-60s having a conical shade with concentric rings of blue, green, brown glass. and plum (estimate: $ 400- $ 700); and a Charles and Ray Eames rocker for Herman Miller with an orange molded fiberglass seat (estimate: $ 400- $ 600).

Last Friday, 34 teams participated in the annual Friends of St. Francis Charity Golf Tournament held at the Homestead at Wolf Ridge Golf Course. The popular online auction also ran concurrently with the tournament. St. Francis Valley Healthcare Foundation (SFVHF) volunteers and staff organized both events and were delighted with the results. Above Odd Man Out entertains the teams after the game. From left to right: Kirk Harber, Terry Mask, Amy Easton, Jason Malinowski

Erin Gienow, Executive Director of SFVHF, said the proceeds from the tournament and auction will go towards the purchase of a GlideScope central unit for the emergency department at St. Francis Memorial Hospital. This device is a visualization system used for intubation and other critical airway procedures. She said that although the exact numbers are not known until later this week, this year’s events have been “very successful”. At least $ 30,000 is expected to be raised, which is comparable to previous years.

The winning quartet of the tournament was the John Davidson team with a score of -15.

The putting contest was won by Adrian Tomasini, who received a gift certificate from the Ash Grove Inn for one night, one dinner and one breakfast.

Roseanne Hoffman, volunteer coordinator of the online auction, said it had 66 packages with a catalog value of $ 16,000. There was something for all tastes and interests. Now in its fourth year, the auction was supported by many returning sponsors – individuals and businesses – but it was also excited to see new sponsors this year. Also, new this year were the gift baskets put together by the Auxiliaries of the SFMH – a great way to make giving easier. Hoffman said she was always impressed with our local artists and artisans, and she posed for The stream holding one of the hand-woven baskets donated by a new sponsor, as well as one of the still popular locally made quilts.

Gienow said the tournament and online auction would not be possible without the generous support of more than 100 Foundation sponsors, volunteers and staff. Although the format of the day of golf changed from its usual start and shot to staggered tee times, participants still had a great day. “After our in-person tournament was canceled last year, it was great to see so many returning teams and we also had the opportunity to meet some new teams.” The teams had lunch under the marquee after playing and were entertained in the afternoon by music from Odd Man Out.

While everyone had fun, Gienow added, “We hope everyone who has contributed to the tournament and online auction knows that they are making a huge impact on local healthcare by ensuring that our wonderful caregivers have the tools they need to take care of us. all!”

But we know that many annual Nature Call participants appreciate the most original articles. And beer, of course.

“Our guests will be able to taste over 60 craft beers, including some from local brewers,” said Snyder. In addition, there will be IPAs, ciders, lagers, selected wines, soft drinks and food items available throughout the evening.

In fact, Nature Calls’ relaxed blue jeans dress code sets it apart from other nonprofit fundraisers.

“There’s nothing stuffy about Nature Calls,” Snyder said. “It’s just a fun night out.”

Sadly, that was insufficient last year, when Nature Calls was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns.

“We are happy to be back after a brief hiatus due to COVID,” Snyder said. “This is the only fundraising event (of the Nature Center) and it is essential to fund our programs. “

Indeed, Nature Calls has helped find special programs such as the Nature Center’s indoor exhibits, the Raptor House, and the popular Discovery Forest Nature Playscape.

This year, only advance tickets will be available.

They can be purchased at the Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center, 4500 Sioux River Road, online at woodburyparks.org or by calling 712-258-0838.

The Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo has announced an online auction to name one of its most popular animals, a one-year-old baby white-handed gibbon. All proceeds from the auction will help fund animal care at the zoo.

The auction started on August 24 in honor of the gibbon’s birthday and will end on September 10. The auction started at $ 250 and will increase in increments of $ 5.

The highest bidder will win the opportunity to submit name recommendations and a zoo gift package, which will include zoo tickets, a gibbon painting, and an item from the zoo gift shop.

The funds from the auction will help pay for food, which costs $ 2,000 per year, veterinary care at the UF College of Veterinary Medicine, which costs approximately $ 2,500, and approximately $ 1,500 for maintenance. habitual and environmental enrichment.

“We give them the same quality food that we would feed ourselves, restaurant quality food,” said Jade Salamone, conservation and education coordinator at the Santa Fe Teaching Zoo.

The 10-acre zoo is located on the Santa Fe campus and is home to 70 different animal species. It is fully maintained by students of the Zoo Animal Technology program, Salamone said.

The zoo doesn’t hire zookeepers, and it serves as a learning lab for students to get hands-on experience, Salamone said.

Because they are an endangered species, gibbons offer students the opportunity to work with unusual animals while giving visitors the opportunity to learn more about them.

“It’s just a really special animal because we teach people about the types of habitats we create to try and recreate their original range, so they can really see all of these amazing natural behaviors that they font, ”Salamone said.

Salamone said the baby gibbon is a particularly special draw for students and visitors.

“He’s really, really curious and very curious. He’s still investigating a lot of things. He’s definitely still attached to his mother, but he’s becoming really, really independent, ”said Salamone.

Caring for gibbons is expensive, but rewarding, said Salamone.

Proceeds from the online auction will also help fund the education of Santa Fe students in the zoo’s animal technology program.

“Being active participants in this stuff really makes a big difference, not only to our animals but also to our zookeepers who create lifelong memories and build careers here,” said Salamone.

Brittany Lee, 39-year-old vice president and agricultural director of Florida Blue Farms, said her family participated in the online auction.

“I think it’s a hidden Gainesville treasure, honestly, and as a family we really love going there,” she said.

Lee said his 4-year-old son Jeb loved watching gibbons and came up with names in case they won. Her current favorite is Gibby, she said.

“We participated in the auction because we want to support the zoo, we want to support the efforts of the zoo, and it’s something my kids and family love to do on a regular basis,” Lee said.
