UNM holds online sportswear auction
ALBUQUERQUE, NM (KRQE) – Fans of Lobo from near and far, you have the chance to catch some loot. Everything from new sneakers to clothes, even some sports equipment. This year’s University of New Mexico sports equipment and equipment auction is fully online.
Jeff Bentley, owner of the Bentley auction shares, “The auction will start Monday night at 6 pm, it will be an online auction. This will be a timed auction starting at lot number one and running in numerical order. It should probably take about four or five hours for everything to sell out.
Things like jerseys, shorts, hundreds of pairs of shoes and crampons are all up for grabs. Some of the extra equipment could be of great help to local young athletes who sometimes cannot afford expensive equipment. “If you want a new pair of shoes for $ 40.00 or $ 50.00, they normally cost between $ 150 and $ 200 – that’s a great way to do it,” says Bentley.
Organizers believe all of the items will sell, but if they don’t, they can be found at Bentley’s Auction in Albuquerque. The university had its first in-person surplus sale in May. School officials say there was a lot of local fan participation.
Ryan Berryman is UNM’s associate athletic director for business operations. He explains, “We wanted to make sure that we had the option for our fans who live out of state or maybe out of the country to have the option of purchasing their Lobo gear.” They say they are selling the excess material to clean up the storage. “You know, we would much rather have this gear in the local fan closets than collecting dust on our shelves. “
The funds from the auction will also help the sports department earn some money in the process. “Obviously we don’t know how much we’re going to earn, but we’ll be reinvesting in our student-athletes, our equipment room, so obviously our equipment room has needs every year,” says Berryman.
